The FIE rules REQUIRE that she NOT leave the strip until the protest is resolved.
So, she didn't stage a "sit-in," she was forced to sit and wait. I bet that the FIE re-evaluates this rule in the near future. There is really no reason to require it.

If you leave, you're essentially abandoning your appeal. I've always been coached to NEVER leave the strip in a bout. FOR ANY REASON.

This is the Olympics, not 6th grade soccer. Refuse to be cheapened.

Awarding a world-class athlete a "special" consolation medal after losing by a mix of technicalities and careless mistakes actually seems a bit more insulting than anything.
The FIE really should have addressed working towards a better time-keeping system than trying to hush up this event.
