신촌 세브란스 병원 레지던트 1년차 등에게 ‘요추천자’ 시술을 받다가 갑자기 사망했다. 사고 후 유족들은 사망 원인을 알고자 ‘의료분쟁조정중재원’에 도움을 요청했지만, 병원 측이 동의하지 않는다는 이유로 거부당했다. 요추천자란 뇌척수액을 뽑거나 약을 투여하기 위해 환자가 옆으로 누운 상태에서 온 몸을 구부리게 한 뒤 척추에 주삿바늘을 찌르는 serif;">예강이 엄마 최윤주(39)씨는 “레지던트 1년차가 요추천자 시술을 5차례나 실패했고, 수혈이 시급한 상황에서 2시간 30분 이상 수혈이 지연됐던 점 등의 의료과실에 대해 병원 측은 ‘최선을 다했다’라는 말로만 일관하고 있다”면서 “병원 측은 지금이라도 예강이 사망 사고의 원인을 밝히고, 의료 과실에 대한 진심어린 사과를 해야 한다”고
