"동물은 원래 옷을 안입어!"라는 핑계로. 그리고 케이시또한 옷을 벗고 놀이에 참여를 한다. 그리고 점프샷. 무슨 일이 일어났는지는 모르지만 다시 옷을 입는 삼촌의 모습이 나오고 케이시는 그에게 총을 겨눈다. 그리고 머뭇거리면서 총을 쏘지는 못한다. 이 장면이 나왔을 때, 너무나도 뜬금 없었다. '왜 굳이 이 장면을 넣어야 하지?'라는 생각이 의문이 해소될 때까지 이어져갔다. 워낙 설명이 없는 연출을 하는 감독이라 너그럽게 보다가 영화 후반부에 다다르자 그 의문은 해소되었다. 바로 '맥어보이'와 관련이 있기 때문이다. '맥어보이'는 어릴 적에 학대와 고문을 당했고, 그 트라우마가 어느 순간부터 다시 시작되어서 24번째 인격인 '괴물'을 만들어냈다는 것이다. 즉, 중간에 케이시의 회상 장면들은 어릴 적에 케이시가 학대를 당했다는 실마리를 던져준 셈이다. 회상 장면 중 아버지가 심장마비로 돌아가셨을 때, 삼촌이 케이시에게 "이제 삼촌 말을 잘 들어야지?"라는 협박하는 말을 하였기에 정황은 확실해졌다. 그렇다면 둘의 관계는 무엇일까? 24번째 인격이 필요한 것은 어릴 적부터 하나도 고통 없이 자란 소녀. 그 소녀들을 먹고 더 강해진다는 것이다. 그래서 그들을 가두고 이뻐했다는 것이다. 허나, 케이시는 어릴 적에 고통을 받았던 흔적이 있기에 '맥어보이'의 목표가 되지 않아 살게 된다.</span></div><span style="color:#000000;font-family:'나눔고딕', nanumgothic, 'se_NanumGothic', AppleSDGothicNeo, sans-serif, simhei;font-weight:normal;text-align:left;"><font size="3"> </font></span> <div style="text-align:justify;"><font size="3"><span style="background-color:inherit;">그런데 갑자기 영화의 방향은 뜬금 없이 '브루스 윌리스'가 '던'이라는 인물로 나오고 끝나게 된다. 샤말란이 하도 반전을 좋아해서 이번 영화에서도 '반전강박증'이 나오나 싶었는데 이번엔 너무 깊게 들어가 버려서 '브루스 윌리스'를 이해하지 못하고 오히려 반전을 눈치채지도 못했다.</span><span style="background-color:inherit;"> 사실 감독의 전작 중 <언브레이커블>을 봐야 반전이 이해가 간다고 한다.
