Strength and size are closely related, past a certain point the correlation between the two is very small. If you are a natural lifter, there is a finite amount of muscle mass you can add to your frame. Once you will get very close to this limit, you will still be able to gain strength but not much size.
Furthermore, strength is more neurological than physical. The strength you gain while lifting heavy comes from a reinforcement of the neural system and the connections between your muscles and your brain. In other words, your brain becomes better at performing the movement.
Final note, you can see plenty of strong guys that are relatively small and plenty of big guys that are relatively weak. This has to do with training methods, if they bulked hard or not… But that’s another topic.
