neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">어릴적 티비에서 방영했던 명작만화 시리즈는 항상 나의 눈을 사로잡았고 그 중에 무인도에 갇힌 로빈슨 가족 이야기인 플로네의 모험도 빼먹지 않고 재미있게 봤다. 한 에피소드가 기억난다. 로빈슨 부부의 결혼기념일이여서 깜짝선물로 부부만을 위한 집을 나무 위에 만들어줘 오붓한 시간을 보낼 수 있게 해 주었는데 밤에 늑대가 나타났다. 나무 크기가 어중간해서 늑대가 충분히 뛰어 오를 수 있는 높이에 집을 지어 부부가 밤새 집을 부셔서 횃불로 만들어 늑대와 싸우다 아침에 해가 뜨자 늑대가 물러나는 내용이었다. 그래서 난 늑대가 야행성동물이고 아침이 되면 사라지는 동물로만 알고 있었다.</span></p> <p neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">시오와 지영, 다나까는 휴먼마을에서 사온 지도를 들여다보며 앞으로의 여정에 대해 이야기하고 있었다.</span></p> <p style="line-height:1.8;font-family:'apple sd gothic neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">휴먼마을에서 사온 지도는 현대식의 정밀한 지도와는 거리가 먼 대략적인 그림과 기호로만 표시가 되 길을 잘 찾을 수 있을지 의문이었다. 다행이 지도를 파는 상점에서 나침반도 팔고 있어서 함께 사기는 했지만 이것만으로 길을 제대로 찾아 드워프마을까지 갈 수 있을지 의문이었다. 지도 상에는 드워프 마을은 늑대숲을 지나면 나오는 독수리산 중턱 어딘가였다.</span></p> <p style="line-height:1.8;font-family:'apple sd gothic neo';"><br></p> <p style="line-height:1.8;font-family:'apple sd gothic neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">“축적도 안 나오고 해서 드워프마을까지 몇일이 걸릴지 모르겠네요”</span></p> <p style="line-height:1.8;font-family:'apple sd gothic neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">“그러게요. 짐을 얼마나 싸야할지 잘 모르겠는데요. 너무 많이 싸 가자니 들고 다니기 부담스럽고”</span></p> neo';"><span style="font-size:18px;">호빗 마을의 길을 걸을 때 마코토의 기분이 좋아보였다. 호스토의 목장을 지나 추이나의 사과밭을 지나고 호수 위로 뛰어 오르는 숭어를 보면서 걸었다. 뒤뚱뒤뚱 걷는 오리들이 길을 다 건너도록 기다려줬고 포로나와 브로리의 개들이 서로 싸우는 것을 말리기도 했다. 온화한 기후에 가끔 시원한 바람도 불어와 4명이서 떠나는 소풍 같은 분위기였다. 특히 마코토는 단순히 처음 온 세상의 바깥 구경을 하는 사람의 반응 보다는 오랜만에 바깥 세상을 구경하는 느낌이 강했다. 이러한 분위기에 젖은 듯 브람스의 발걸음도 가벼웠고 살짝 콧노래도 흥얼거렸다. 미류나무 아래에서 가볍게 점심을 먹고 다시 출발하였다. 이윽고 호빗마을과 늑대숲의 경계에 도착했고 브람스는 브람스에게 박수를 쳐 주었다. 막상 늑대숲 안에는 별다른 것이 없었다. 숲길은 생각보다 체력을 많이 소모했다. 주특기로 다져진 시오의 체력은 말년이란 두달의 공백기를 거쳐 민간인 수준으로 내려왔고 특히 장검이 한쪽으로만 축 쳐져서 허리가 아파 단검으로 살걸이라고 후회를 했다. 마코토 사정은 더 심했다. 호빗 마을에서는 뭔가 알 수 없는 노래를 부르며 걸었지만 숲에 들어서고 얼마 후 그 노래가 그쳤다. 제일 생생한건 브람스였고 지영도 의외로 체력이 좋은지 산뜻하게 걷고 있었다. 그놈의 자존심이 뭐라고 쉬었다 가자라는 말을 못 꺼낸 시오였다. 우거진 나무 사이를 지나자 넓은 벌판이 펼쳐졌다. 역시 지도에는 나오지 않은 벌판이었다. 벌판 길을 한참 걷고 있는데 멀리서 뭔가가 빠른 속도로 달려 왔다.
